ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
On December 1st at 12:40 PM, the Create the Future virtual conference brought together more than 300 classrooms of students across the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) in group discussions with inspiring young people who work in the skilled trades.
GROUP 1 - WHY SKILLED TRADES?
Truck and Coach Technician
Truck and Coach Technicians inspect, repair, and maintain commercial trucks, emergency vehicles, buses and road transport vehicles.
Electricians plan, assemble, connect, install, repair, inspect, test, verify and maintain electrical systems in various settings.
HVAC Technicians install, repair, and maintain Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration systems in buildings.
GROUP 2 - ADDRESSING MYTHS
Brick and Stone Mason
Brick and Stone Masons build and repair walls, floors, arches, pavings, partitions, fireplaces, chimneys, smokestacks and other structures.
Millwrights install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
Auto Body and Collision
Auto Body and Collision Repairers fix and restore damaged motor vehicles, including exterior, interior, and electronic components.
GROUP 3 - TAKING THE NEXT STEP
General Carpenters assemble, renovate, and repair structures made of wood, steel, and concrete.
Automotive Service Technician
Automotive Service Technicians perform preventative maintenance, diagnose problems and repair vehicle systems in cars and light trucks.
Plumbers install, repair, and maintain piping systems and other equipment used for water-related distribution, drainage, and disposal.
